Prof. Rowena Murray has an MA (Hons) from Glasgow University and PhD from Pennsylvania State University, where she taught Rhetoric and Composition. She is Professor in Education and Director of Research in the School of Education at the University of the West of Scotland and Principal Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. She has written articles and books on academic writing, including How to Write a Thesis, Writing for Academic Journals, The Handbook of Academic Writing (co-authored with Sarah Moore) and Writing in Social Spaces. Her research has been funded by the British Academy, the Carnegie Trust and the Nuffield Foundation.
